Daraja Academy With pride and excitement in 2009 the Carr Educational Foundation opened the doors to its inaugural project: Daraja Academy in Nanyuki, Kenya. With its first class of 26 girls, Daraja Academy began one of the first free, all-girl secondary boarding schools in East Africa. All of its students are intelligent, driven and talented. However due to poverty, none would have been able to attend secondary school (high school in the US).

Located in Kenya, a country rich with natural and cultural beauty, the school intends to work with its most underdeveloped resources - its young women. Daraja Academy and its supporters believe that by educating these inspirational stars effective change will begin to be felt throughout homes, villages, communities and beyond.

Daraja Academy, however, is far from being just a philanthropic mission in Africa. Daraja means "bridge" in Swahili and it is the school's vision to create bridges linking the campus and its incredible students with students across the world. Currently relationships exist bridging the Kenyan campus and with a girls school in Melbourne, Australia, several middle and high schools in Northern California as well as the University of San Diego and University of Minnesota.

Though it is now small in numbers, this is a school that is large in heart. Please join the Daraja Academy family today!
