Oakland Technical High School - Performing Arts
12/2008 & 4/2010

Oakland Technical High School is a large, urban comprehensive high school located in the heart of Oakland. After years in which the performing arts were cut from the school, a parent-led initiative to restore the arts at Tech blossomed into a model performing arts program. Music, dance, and theatre arts are now a regular part of the school day and have sparked creative inquiry and community spirit.

The school now hosts a district Jazz Festival, several Music and Dance Showcases, and full-length plays. The Performing Arts offer assemblies to the entire student body to introduce students to live performance, and perform in community events in and around the East Bay, including the Temescal Street Fair and Dance Week celebrations. The Theatre program has recently been honored as a recipient of the American High School Theatre Festival Award, which sends 50 High Schools nation-wide as representatives to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world's largest theatre festival, in Scotland.
